Prevention is better than cure - this proverb can be applied not only to preventive health care, but also to the organization of work in the warehouse.
An informed entrepreneur realizes that with the right safeguards, accidents can be prevented that would have serious consequences for employees and the company as a whole. What's more, the implementation of security systems can have a favorable impact on insurance rates. What safeguards can an entrepreneur invest in?
This is probably the simplest and cheapest solution with which to ensure efficient organization of work in the warehouse. Just use tapes of different colors and stick them on the floor in such a way that they delineate the boundaries of different zones on the warehouse floor. In this way you can mark out traffic routes, places for unloading and loading goods, escape routes or workstations. It is worth investing in special tapes for marking the warehouse, which are characterized by high resistance (including to abrasion, high and low temperatures) and very good adhesion.
Of similar purpose, albeit providing a more durable alternative to warehouse marking tapes, is the so-called laser virtual safety line. The product, with the help of high-performance lamps, allows to display lines in red, green, blue, yellow and white, visible in all weather and lighting conditions.
Pallet truck foot protection is a simple solution for workers using hand pallet trucks, or so-called pallet trucks. It involves securing the wheels of the forklift with a metal guard that prevents the pallet truck from running over a worker's foot. In this way, painful injuries can be avoided, as well as injuries requiring long-term treatment and rehabilitation (sprains, crush injuries, foot fractures). Therefore, it is not worth giving up this protection, especially since the foot protection for a pallet truck is a very solid solution and compatible with most models of pallet trucks.
Traffic paths running between warehouse racks resemble road intersections. There is a lot of traffic on them and it happens that collisions occur between users who are moving in different directions. A collision between a pedestrian and a forklift is not difficult, as shelves full of goods severely limit visibility, and sounds coming from everywhere make it difficult to locate the danger. However, you can easily prevent accidents by installing a CS rack warning system. This is a device that should be installed at the intersection of passageways, that is, for example, at the edge of a rack. When movement is detected from both directions, the system will start emitting a warning light and a sound signal, so that workers will be aware of the impending danger.
In high-traffic warehouses, there are constantly more or less serious collisions between pedestrian workers and workers moving in vehicles. This can be avoided by using a modern IPAS pedestrian and forklift warning system. It is a set of communicating devices that emit a signal (sound, vibration, light) when approached at a certain distance. Transponders can be mounted on forklifts, on workers' clothing (e.g. helmets) or machines, among others. Depending on your needs, the system can warn of a collision between:
In addition, the system can emit a signal to initiate a selected action, such as opening a gate or reducing the speed of a forklift. All this is done so that pedestrian workers can feel completely safe, and forklift operators gain greater freedom and comfort.
In vast warehouses, where there is constant traffic and vehicle operators have to travel long distances, it is worth installing an automatic speed limit system. What is such a solution based on? Well, the system consists of two types of devices:
Thanks to the mutual communication of the transmitters and receivers, the forklift can automatically reduce its speed when it approaches a given area. This gives the pedestrian more time to react appropriately, such as getting out of the path of an oncoming vehicle. Reducing the speed limit in the zone will work especially well for those operators who are used to moving quickly on the warehouse floor.
